
Pelvic Pain
Pelvic pain can be considered a gynaecological disorder if it affects the female reproductive system.
The pain can cause discomfort in the lowest part of the torso, the area below the abdomen and between the hipbones. It may feel similar to menstrual cramps and may gradually increase the intensity, sometimes in waves. Pelvic pain may coincide with the menstrual cycle or even before or during ovulation.
Depending on the cause, some women may experience the following symptoms:
- Sensitive pelvic area
- Bleeding
- Discharge
- Fever
- Nausea and vomiting
- Sweating
- Light-headedness
Some causes of pelvic pain include:
- Endometriosis
- Musculoskeletal problems
- Mittelschmerz (Painful ovulation)
- Ectopic pregnancy
- Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease
- Ovarian remnants
- Fibroids
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Painful bowel syndrome
- Sexually transmitted diseases
